Welcome to HL Chemistry! Over the duration of this course, we will be learning about many different areas of Chemistry-- including Organic Chemistry, Acids and Bases, RedOx, and Biochem.
What is this course? A rigorous second year of High School-level Chemistry, meant to both prepare for an exam taken world wide by all students taking IB HL Chemistry, as well as preparing for future educational endeavours.
Why Chemistry? Whether you plan to go into a STEM field or not, Chemistry opens the door to a wide range of scientific exploration, with applications in many fields of study as well as in daily life. Everything is made of matter, and Chemistry is the study of that matter. Chemistry is required for any Pre-Health degree and for all Engineering tracks. From Agriculture to Business to History to even English and the Liberal Arts, a solid foundation of scientific understanding immediately sets you apart. In an increasingly technological world, scientific literacy is key to understanding what is happening around us. Science is also a process-- in this class you will reinforce your understanding of the scientific method, not only in the hopes of creating better scientists, but creating better critical thinkers and better world citizens.
